MRC International Summit 2019 - Combining Treatment for TMJ, SDB & Malocclusion

8:59 AM Thu, July 25, 2019 - 4:59 PM Sat, July 27, 2019

MRC International Summit 2019 - Combining Treatment for TMJ, SDB & Malocclusion

MRC’s International Summit 2019 is an excellent opportunity for Myobrace Members, Myobrace Certified Providers and other professionals to network with like-minded industry professionals and discover the latest developments in sleep dentistry and myofunctional orthodontic techniques, using MRC’s appliance systems. With a high prevalence of sleep disordered breathing problems in children and adults, opportunities now exist for practitioners to broaden their scope of treatment by offering avenues to practice sleep dentistry using MRC’s appliance systems.
During the three-day summit you will learn:
• How MRC combines treatment of airway dysfunction, TMJ issues and malocclusion;
• The role of orthodontics in paediatric sleep disordered breathing;
• Relationship of tethered oral tissues to poor myofunctional habits and sleep disordered breathing;
• About the causes of TMJ disorder and airway dysfunction;
• How to diagnose and treat airway dysfunction, TMJ disorder and malocclusion;
• The implementation of MRC’s protocols for efficient, effective and profitable treatment;
• How to ensure good record taking for MRC treatment protocols;
• Myofunctional Orthodontic arch expansion techniques;
• About the company’s most recent advancements in appliance technologies and patient education programs;
• Advanced techniques in Myofunctional Orthodontics.

Dr Chris Farrell, BDS Sydney - Dr Chris Farrell graduated from Sydney University in 1971 having gained a comprehensive knowledge of traditional orthodontic treatment using the BEGG technique. As a result of his clinical experience he became interested in TMJ disorder and after further research discovered the aetiology of malocclusion and TMJ disorder was myofunctional, which contradicted the established view of his profession. Dr Farrell founded Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) in 1989 with the intent to develop a Myofunctional Orthodontic system targeted at treating the upper airway and neuromuscular dysfunction causing malocclusion. Dr Farrell’s Myobrace and Trainer treatment systems have proven extremely effective at providing early, preventive pre-orthodontic treatment and are now used by dental professionals in more than 100 countries around the world.

Dr Madeeha Khan, B Oral H (Dent.Sci), Grad.Dip Dent. (Griffith) - Dr Madeeha Khan has been working at the Myobrace Pre-Orthodontic Centre since 2016. She is passionate about improving the overall health of children and has a strong desire to engage in The Myobrace System, which stems from her belief that early intervention can change the course of paediatric health. Dr Khan is responsible for providing treatment support, education and advice to Myobrace Members and practitioners in Australia and internationally. At the beginning of 2017, Dr Khan joined the MRC lecturing team to share her knowledge and passion for The Myobrace System, and its long-lasting impact on the overall health of her patients.

Dr Emad Ahangari, B Oral H (Dent.Sci), Grad.Dip Dent. (Griffith) - Dr Emad Ahangari completed his studies in dentistry at Griffith University (Gold Coast) in 2014. Following graduation, he worked in Canada for nearly two years before returning to Australia to receive direct mentoring from two of the biggest global authorities on myofunctional orthodontics - Dr John Flutter and Dr Chris Farrell. Dr Ahangari excels in communication, has a passion for teaching and looks forward to expanding his knowledge and skills in the hopes of one day being a notable figure in the movement to revolutionise the way professionals and the public view malocclusion and other myofunctional health issues.

Jess Maidman, Senior Myobrace Educator - Jessica Maidman has been in the dental industry since 2006 and joined Myofunctional Research Co. in 2012. Her passion for improving the health of all children, combined with her lively enthusiastic personality and years of experience in paediatric dentistry, make her a wonderful addition to the MRC team. After working in Myobrace Pre-Orthodontic Centre for the past five years, Jessica is now the Senior Educator for Myobrace, offering support, education and training to Myobrace Members and assisting practitioners to implement The Myobrace System in their practice. Jessica is also a part of the MRC lecturing team and is passionate about sharing the Myobrace philosophy around the world.

Chris Norton, DDS Dallas - Dr Chris Norton graduated from Baylor Dental School in 1984. He has practiced orthodontics and general dentistry in Dallas, Texas and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He spent four years as a Dental Director for Amarillo College and practiced orthodontic treatment, TMD and sleep apnoea in Salt Lake City, Utah and McKinney, Texas. Dr Norton currently serves as the orthodontic provider for Abbeville Dentistry. He continues to provide orthodontic, TMD and sleep apnoea treatment in Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa and Big Spring. He considers himself an airway dentist who looks to correct the cause of an issue while treating the symptoms. His goal is to convert others to addressing the causes and issues that affect our everyday dental patients.

Dr Derek Mahony, BDS (Syd), MscOrth (Lon), DOrthRCS (Edin), MDOrthRCPS (Glas), MOrthRCS (Eng) - Dr Mahony is a Specialist Orthodontist who has spoken to thousands of practitioners about the benefits of interceptive orthodontic treatment. Early in his career, Dr Mahony learned from leading clinicians the dramatic effect functional appliance therapy can afford patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Dr Mahony is an invited reviewer for many dental journals, in the field of facial development, and its association with nasal breathing. He has been involved in leading research linking maxillary arch expansion to a number of systemic disorders such as bed wetting and ADHD.
