THE LATEST INNOVATIONS BY MRC - SET FOR RELEASE AT IDS 2025!
Increasingly, dentists are seeing a growing number of recurrent cases of relapse within adult patients, often coupled with TMJ and sleep-related breathing disorders. Modern research indicates that relapse will continue to be an ongoing issue that plagues the orthodontic industry until simpler and more effective remedies are implemented, instead of defaulting back to the same treatment techniques that frequently produce unstable results.
Steinnes et al found in 2017 that “occlusal relapse can be expected after orthodontic treatment irrespective of long-term use of fixed retainers. While traditional orthodontics may be very good at aligning the teeth, it tends to ignore the underlying breathing and myofunctional habits that are the root cause of malocclusion. Hence, relapse is the most common outcome for orthodontic patients.
For more than 35 years, Myofunctional Research Co. (MRC) has developed innovative, prefabricated myofunctional appliances and educational programs for the treatment of malocclusion, TMJ and sleep disordered breathing. The globally renowned Myobrace®, Myosa® and Myotalea® appliance systems are now used by practitioners in over 150 countries.
These treatment modalities have been successfully delivered to countless paediatric patients worldwide and have consequently driven higher than ever demand from adults seeking similar opportunities. MRC has once again answered the call with its newest major developments to be announced in 2025.
MRC is set to unveil its latest developments in appliance technology and myofunctional orthodontic treatment modalities at the International Dental Show (IDS) in March 2025. The new Myobrace®Adult Aligner and Myoretainr® treatment system will be showcased at IDS 2025 and aim to address the growing demand for more effective relapse treatment options in adult patients.
Myobrace® Adult Aligner
The Myobrace® Adult Aligner appliance group presents an evolution to the previous Myobrace® for Adults appliance group and incorporates a range of new design features. The new Adult Aligner appliances are specifically designed for adult patients and focus on improving the underlying breathing and myofunctional habits causing the issue, as well as dental alignment.
The Myobrace® Adult Aligner group of appliances is made up of three stages, each with unique features and goals to deliver myofunctional orthodontic treatment for adult patients. The Adult Aligner appliances incorporate a new tongue tag design and MRC’s unique Dynamicore™ in the stage two and three appliances.
Myoretainr®
The new Myoretainr® appliances were created by MRC to fill the urgent need for better ways of retaining results upon completion of orthodontic treatment. Designed to provide retention after orthodontic treatment, the prefabricated Myoretainr® appliances focus on retaining the positions of the teeth and jaws, while also ensuring the patient adopts or maintains the correct breathing and myofunctional habits while wearing the appliance, further enhancing retention.
Adult Treating Relapse
The two variations include the standard Myoretainr® appliance and the Myoretainr® Hard appliance. The standard Myoretainr® appliance is made from flexible material, making it adaptable for any arch form and is suitable for patients who have experienced mild orthodontic relapse. The Myoretainr® Hard a more rigid retention variation designed for severe cases of orthodontic relapse that require a firmer material to maintain alignment.
