Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 1 - S1

Establish a functional airway and habit correction

The Myosa^®for TMJBDS^®S1 is used in patients with a Breath Hold Time (BHT) of 20 seconds or more. It works by advancing the sleeper’s lower jaw and opening the bite, which has the effect of opening the airway. Additionally, the S1 has four breathing holes at the front to regulate breathing. For better retention during sleep, the patient can use the mouldable version of the S1 appliance (S1M). Progress to the S2 when the patient’s BHT reaches 35 seconds or more.

Directions for Use

The Myosa^® appliance is to be used for one to two hours each day, plus overnight while sleeping. The patient's teeth may become slightly sensitive in the early stages of treatment. This is quite normal, however, if pain becomes excessive, decrease application time with the aim to build it back up once the appliance is accustomed to and sensitivity subsides. The Myosa^® appliance may change the position of the teeth and jaws, though the flexibility of the appliance minimises this potential.

Step 1
Hold the Myosa^® appliance with the tongue tag facing up.
Step 2
Place the Myosa^® appliance into your mouth.
Step 3
Keep your tongue positioned on the tongue tag or press for exercising.
Step 4
Close down on the Myosa^® appliance and feel it working to align your front teeth and jaws.
Step 5
Keep your lips together and breathe through your nose as much as possible.
