Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 2 - S2
Transition to nasal breathing and habit correction
The Myosa® for TMJBDS® S2 is used in the second stage of treatment when the patient's Breath Hold Time (BHT) has reached 35 seconds or more. The S2 is the main appliance in the TMJBDS® range and works by advancing the lower jaw and opening the bite, which has the effect of opening the airway. It also has numerous other features which help it to treat intracapsular TMJ disorders while improving breathing and myofunctional disorders. For better retention during sleep, the patient can use the mouldable version of the S2 appliance (S2M). Progress to the S3 when the patient’s BHT reaches 45 seconds or more.
Directions for Use
The Myosa® appliance is to be used for one to two hours each day, plus overnight while sleeping. The patient's teeth may become slightly sensitive in the early stages of treatment. This is quite normal, however, if pain becomes excessive, decrease application time with the aim to build it back up once the appliance is accustomed to and sensitivity subsides. The Myosa® appliance may change the position of the teeth and jaws, though the flexibility of the appliance minimises this potential.
Hold the Myosa® appliance with the tongue tag facing up.
Place the Myosa® appliance into your mouth.
Keep your tongue positioned on the tongue tag.
Close down on the Myosa® appliance and feel it working to align your front teeth and jaws.
Keep your lips together and breathe through your nose.
Cleaning the Myosa® S2
The Myosa® appliance should be cleaned under warm running water every time the patient removes it from their mouth.
Use Myoclean™ tablets to thoroughly clean twice a week. Myoclean™ is the recommended cleaning agent for all MRC appliances.
